Frequently Asked Questions

Is the diving center always open?

Diving is available all year round. Our daily activities usually take place at 9, 11 and 15. The only condition that could prevent activities is bad weather and/or rough seas.

Booking your dives

Usually we do not require an advance booking, you can organize your own week of diving once you arrive here. Being a small diving, in the case of families or underwater groups with at least 4 participants, we kindly ask you for an email notice in order to ensure availability for all and the best possible organization.

Water temperature and wetsuits

The water temperature ranges from a minimum of 25 ºC in July/August to a maximum of 30 ºC in January/February. A 3mm long wetsuit can fit most of the season. Take into consideration a 5 mm if you are particularly cold or for the colder months. The diving offers, for hire, 3 mm long wetsuits and 2.5mm short wetsuits, from sizes for children up to XXL.

Can I dive even if I’ve never tried?

Of course! Somewhere you have to start, so for those who want to try the first breath underwater there is a special program that, with a few basics, you can safely dive a few meters deep and experience the same sensations of experienced divers. Everything always happens under the guidance of an instructor who will accompany you from the initial briefing, to the exit from the water.

Antimalarial treatment

Always consult your doctor before leaving, antimalarial medicines may interfere with your diving due to some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, dysentery and dizziness. If your travel destination is limited to the surroundings of Nosy Be (Tsarabanjina included), you should know that malaria cases are practically absent.

Whales and whale shark - Great migrations

Humpback whales pass through our waters between August and October, but every year is different and we may have advances or delays. In Madagascar it is not allowed to swim with whales, so our activity is limited to observation from the boat. As for the whale shark, however, from October to December, we can enter the water in small groups of 10 people at a time.

What is the best time to dive in Tsarabanjina? What can you see while diving?

In Tsarabanjina we can dive all year round! The best visibility goes from June to September, begins to gradually decrease from October onwards with the arrival of plankton, which at the same time attracts a large amount of fish. During our diving we can find all the tropical reef fish (butterfly, angel, parrot, crossbow, puffer, box), encounters with some pelagic passage (trevally, white tunas, barracuda, whitetip sharks)without forgetting the smallest life forms (nudibranchs, seahorses, shrimps). The coral formations of the area are in an excellent state of health, you can admire acropore boards, alcionaries, fans of gorgonians, coral elk horns, anemones, black coral bushes and many other species.

Dive insurance

If you are a certified diver and are coming to Tsarabanjina with the intention of diving, we recommend that you visit the Diver Alert Network website, on daneurope.org or dansa.org. Both issue diving insurance policies, both weekly and annual. Nosy Be has a hyperbaric chamber since some years.
